THE REVIEW
A chance meeting sees 2 friends invited to a tech billionaire’s secluded island for a digital detox holiday, but everything is not exactly as it seems.
My reviews promise no spoilers, and on this occasion it’s particularly hard to keep. But I will. You can only watch a film for the first time, once.
Given the whole film is basically two locations and largely the same outfits, it’s very cleverly done with a creative range of shots that work well without looking like they are trying.
The trigger warning is important, and thankfully has been added since I saw the film. At times it’s quite confronting and the articulate script and excellently nuanced performances makes for scenes that at times feel all too real.
Casting was on point, with at first glance, an unlikely list, but after understanding the full film and its subtext reveals the genius of those decisions.
Unlike many films, the audience is not spoon fed, offering a more engaging option to actually observe, listen more deeply, and piece together what is happening with the characters.
It’s brilliantly unhinged, Blink Twice derives its thrill and horror from a well-crafted storyline that offers fantasy but enough truth to be entirely plausible at the same time.
If you’re ok with the trigger warning and are feeling emotionally robust - check it out.
