REVIEW:
This is a big budget boxing movie with expectedly great fight scenes, but I got the feeling it’s really about 2 emotionally repressed men that will do anything else but talk about their feelings - including fighting each-other to be world champion.
If you’re into the Rocky / creed storyline, you’ll really love it.
I did enjoy that there was a deaf character with personality plus… and that “boxing isn’t about violence” only for the film to swiftly back it up with the inference that violence is all his opponent understands.
There were a few groan worthy macho moments… if you’re into performative toxic masculinity thinly veiled as heroism with super fit and super skilled boxers in a stunningly choreographed and very well produced film this is for you.
Pretty sure I’m not the target demographic.
